The Portuguese arm of European fresh produce company Univeg has established a new distribution facility in the north of the country, Eurofruit can reveal.
The centre, which is located in Estarreja, will serve as a cross-docking platform for shipments of fresh and frozen produce around the region, and according to the group has been set up in response to major changes in the way fruit and vegetables are moved around the continent.
'As a result of the growth of decentralised distribution, Univeg Portugal decided to expand its activities with a cross-docking platform in the north of Portugal,' a spokesperson confirmed.'The platform features storage capacity for fresh and frozen products.'
Retaining its main platform in Riachos-Torres Novas in the centre of the country, the cross-docking platform will apparently enable Univeg's Portuguese operation to increase its flexibility and improve delivery times for customers located in the north of the country.
Univeg's main customers in Portugal are retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers, distributors and other customers operating inperishable goods.
