Univeg has this week inaugurated its new Bulgarian logistics centre, located in Elin Pelin in the Sofia region, as the European fresh produce giant looks to reinforce its commitment to the region.
The opening ceremony, which took place on 16 May, was conducted by HE Ambassador Marc Michielsen, mayor of Elin Pelin Galia Georgieva and Univeg CEO Theo de Kool, and was attended by a number of key customers, business partners and trade representatives.
The logistics centre has a total warehousing and distribution area of 8,000m2, and features state-of-the-art technology that allows the facility to fulfil the needs of Univeg's break-bulk and cross docking operations in the fresh and frozen produce sectors.
Boasting 25 loading docks with four separate sections to accommodate different temperature rooms, the site meets the latest food safety standards for an optimal logistics service, the group said.
In addition, the new facility will provide a location for Univeg's Bulgarian headquarters, with the group having been operational in the country since 2006.
'With a total investment of €6.5m, Univeg Bulgaria has a first-in-class base to further expand its activities in fresh logistics in Bulgaria,' said Tom Paemeleire, COO of the Univeg Group.
