Univeg Katopé UK has announced that it has received its first arrivals of Turkish-grown Balck Bursa figs from group partner and grower Alara, the world's largest fig exporter.
According to the group, Univeg Katopé will receive over 50 full truck loads of the fruit over the course of the season, with around half of the country's yearly fig sales occurring in the short window that Black Bursa is available.
The Black Bursa variety is normally available from the end of August until the end of Otober, with Univeg initially working with airfreighted fruit, followed by major volumes delivered via road transport in September when retail promotional activity intensifies.
Black Bursa figs are best known for their deep purple/black colour and their large size, and are grown in the idyllic climatic conditions of the Bursa region of Northwest Turkey.
