Leading international fresh produce company Univeg has appointed Georgi Koupenov as the new managing director of its Univeg Bulgaria subsidiary, a move it says will ensure it is well placed to capitalise on new opportunities to expand in the eastern European country.
The division provides a range of different logistics services for fresh produce traders in Bulgaria to customers in the food retail and foodservice sectors, among others.
Koupenov has held a number of senior management positions at leading international companies, such as Diageo, Remy Cointreau and Metro Cash & Carry.
A graduate of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, he has worked in several different countries worldwide including Japan, Sweden, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland and Hungary.
'Whilst having the ability to handle significant volumes of fresh produce, Univeg Bulgaria is fully committed to meet the latest standards in food safety and to establish even stronger relationships with our customers to bring more value to all involved,' Koupenov commented.
Walter Van Looy, who heads up Univeg's transport and logistics department from its head office in Belgium, added: 'We are pleased to have Georgi at the helm of Univeg Bulgaria. His international experience will provide the company with specific management strengths as we continue to deliver on the great potential of Univeg Bulgaria.'
