The United Fresh Produce Association has announced that it will honour Costco Wholesale's Heather Shavey at its 2009 Reception Honouring Women in Produce, the event held in conjunction with United Fresh 2009 in Las Vegas.
Ms Shavey will be recognised for her innovation and continued service to the produce industry in her role as assistant general marketing manager for fresh foods and produce at Costco Wholesale.
Since joining the group as a warehouse caller in 1984, Ms Shavey has climbed the ranks and excelled in her current role since 2004, United Fresh said.
'It's such an honour to receive this award and be counted in such an esteemed group of past recipients,' said Ms Shavey. 'Now more than ever, women play crucial roles and are needed in all stages of the fresh and fresh-cut produce industry, from farm to fork. This recognition is as much theirs as it is mine.'
The annual reception takes place at the Palazzo Hotel in Las Vegas on 22 April, with the United Fresh 2009 show held at the Sands Megacenter on 21-24 April.
