United Fresh 2011 exhibitors have donated almost 25,000lb of fresh fruit and vegetables to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana.
James Borys, the director of Second Harvest's umbrella organisation, Feeding America, said: 'Donated product will be distributed through multiple agency partners such as food pantries, soup kitchens and other emergency feeding centres that serve America's millions who live at risk of hunger.'
The convention took place in New Orleans on 2-5 May, bringing together 250 exhibiting companies and more than 4,000 visitors.
John Toner, vice-president of convention and industry relations at United Fresh, commented: 'We are so happy to give back to a city that has been such a gracious and welcoming host for our industry.'
