United fresh 2011

The United Fresh Produce Association’s annual conference and trade fair has officially opened for business in New Orleans, with more than 4,500 attendees and 250 exhibitors expected to set foot across expanded exhibition space this year.

United Fresh 2011 kicked off on Monday 2 May at the RiverJazz Opening Party hosted at the Hilton Riverwalk Wharf on the Mississippi River.

The organisation said outstanding produce managers representing 21 different supermarket chains, commissaries and independent retail stores in both the US and Canada will also be the honoured guests at the show.

The event this year is based on the theme ‘Make a big difference in the Big Easy’ and aims to help visitors develop big ideas, big impact, big value, big innovation, big networking, big business and big solutions.

The first opening breakfast general session on Tuesday 3 May focused on the industry’s 2010 accomplishments and challenges, in particular the success of introducing salad bars to schools.

Other sessions are due to look at the fresh-cut produce industry and local challenges, among other developments, innovations and projects relating to the fresh fruit and vegetable trade.

The association is this week connecting the produce industry to the annual event through myriad channels, including the United Fresh smartphone app, UnitedFresh.TV, the association’s online video home, United’s social media pages, and a comprehensive photo gallery.
