Unifrutti Group is aiming to consolidate its position as a leading international supplier to the Italian fresh produce market with the acquisition of a second wholesale market concession in the country.
The company’s Italian company Unifrutti Distribution, which is already present at the fruit and vegetable wholesale market in Verona, will begin trading through a second such operation at Rome’s Agri-Food Centre (CAR), to the east of the capital, from September.
Commenting on the news, CAR general manager Fabio Massimo Pallottini described Unifrutti’s “prestigious” arrival as “a source of great satisfaction” and recognition of the Rome wholesale market authority’s recent commercial strategy.
With reported turnover of €48m in Italy and around €1bn worldwide, according to CAR, Unifrutti Group is one of the world’s largest fresh produce companies.
In Italy, Unifrutti Distribution’s network incorporates various production, logistics and commercial centres: as well as its headquarters, main packing and distribution centre and a banana ripening facility in the Marche region, the company has a commercial office for import/export in Padua, plus its wholesale business in Verona.
In Puglia and Marche, meanwhile, it runs two production centres for table grapes, peaches and Coscia pears.
