Major Spanish fresh produce exporter Unica Group is reportedly in talks with a Dutch cooperative, with a view to incorporating the first company outside Spain into its structure.
Unica’s managing director, Enrique de los Ríos, has confirmed that the as-yet-unnamed Netherlands-based firm is expected to formally become part of the Almerían group of companies over the coming days, according to Agronoticias.
Mr de los Ríos also reportedly told the publication that Unica Group was in talks with US and Israeli companies about further expanding its membership outside Spain.
Almería-based Unica Group is currently composed of five leading Spanish fresh produce cooperatives – Casur, Ferva, Agrieco, Cohorsan and Cabasc – and produces a total of 140,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetables each year. Fellow Almerían cooperative Ejidomar left the group in May last year.
