On 7 June, the United Arab Shipping Company (UASC)-owned containership UMM Salal visited the Port of Hamburg on its maiden voyage, with the 13,100 TEU vessel handled at the Eurogate Container Terminal Hamburg.
The ship, the largest to date belonging to UASC, is equipped with over 1,000 reefer slots, making it the first of nine ships of this size to be completed in 2011 and 2012.
UMM Salal will sail in the weekly Europe-Far East container service AEC-8, which UASC runs together with CMA CGM, China Shipping and Evergreen, with the four lines deploying nine ships with a slot capacity of between 9,500-14,100 TEU across the AEC-8, the FAL-2 and AEX-7 services.
The ports covered by these services are Hamburg, Zeebrugge, Port Klang, Shanghai, Ningbo, Shekou, Hong Kong, Yantian, Port Klang, Le Havre, Rotterdam and Hamburg, with a round trip taking 63 days.
