Strawberries

The British strawberry season has got off to a late start this year as a result of the dire weather conditions in the UK.

However, UK retailer Sainsbury's has finally announced their arrival in its stores, two to three weeks later than last year.

Ian Cambridge, Sainsbury’s strawberry buyer, commented: “Strawberries are typically associated with the great British summer, so it’s great to announce that customers will see 100 per cent deliveries from this week. As the weather begins to pick up and we near the summer celebrations there’s no better time to enjoy home-grown strawberries.'

He said that Sainsbury's had been working closely with its growers to ensure the produce arrived when it tasted its best, and advised consumers to take full advantage.

'As the weather has been so unreliable, I’d encourage customers to take advantage while it lasts,' he said.
