New figures released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) and published by Tomatoes Today have pegged Turkish fresh fruit and vegetable production to increase this year, by 3.5 per cent and 4.7 per cent respectively.
According to TurkStat, vegetable production is forecast to increase to 27.2m tonnes, with tomatoes climbing 8.4 per cent and higher volumes of onions, carrots, green beans and greenpeppers.
Meanwhile, bell peppers and aubergines are set to fall, while root vegetable yields are to come in 5.2 per cent higher.
Fruit production is to rise to 17.2m tonnes, with particular growth in apples, apricots, plums, cherries, melons, water melons, olives, grapes and oranges.
However, banana production isset to decrease, while the production volume of mandarins and lemons is expected to remain stable, TurkStat noted.
