Turbana

Turbana Corporation is celebrating 40 years of existence as one of the premier importers of premium bananas, exotic bananas and plantains in North America.

The group, which is owned by grower-owned banana company Uniban and European tropical produce importer-distributor Fyffes, first opened its doors in 1970.

A number of milestones have been achieved through the company's lifespan, including being the first importer to ship 100 per cent unitized cargo in 1986, the first banana company to launch a private label programme with Stop & Shop in 1994, and the first to merchandise plantains into an important category.

'It is amazing how far the company has gone and how far it has grown since it started, not just as an importer of quality fruit, but as a leader of socially responsible farming and an advocate of Fair Trade,' said Turbana CEO Juan Alarcon.

Turbana has recently rolled out a new corporate and brand identities, and has this year launched a division of consumer packaged goods with its Turbana brand of plantain chips.
