The signs are good for those hoping that the ongoing spat between US and Mexico over trucks will be resolved, with Mexico's economy minister claiming that a solution will be found at some point this year.
Coinciding with the visit of US trade envoy Ron Kirk to Mexico this week, minister Gerardo Ruiz Mateos said that the two countries were working together on a resolution to put an end to a conflict that had harmed competition through the recession, the Associated Free Press reported.
In March 2009, Mexico placed tariffs on nearly 90 US products, hitting back at the cancellation by the US of a programme allowing a number of Mexican trucks into the country, violating a section of the North American Free Trade Agreement.
'We have the green light to go forward and start those consultations with Congress and with our stakeholders in the US,' Mr Kirk told a new conference.
