The National Institute for Statistics and information in Peru has recorded growth rates of 49.9 per cent in pineapples, 28.7 per cent in avocados and 20.6 per cent in mangoes during the first two months of 2011.
Pineapple production was increased by a rise in the planted area, which was required to meet internal demand.
Mango production was boosted by better results in the Piura and Lambayeque regions, which experienced more beneficial climatic conditions.
Avocado production was also helped by growth in main growing regions.
Unfavourable weather caused declines in the production of tomatoes (19.4 per cent nationally) and grapes (1.8 per cent).
A smaller planted area saw asparagus production decline 5.1 per cent year on year.
Peru's agricultural and livestock sector grew 4.4 per cent overall in the period.
