The Cítricos Valencianos Protected Geographical Indication has announced the death of its first president, Enrique Blasco Roig.
Blasco, who served as president of the PGI from 1998 to 2010, was previously the head of UTECO, the Valencian Cooperative Union.
José Barres Gabarda, current president of the Cítricos Valencianos PGI, described Blasco as a great defender of the Valencian citrus industry and the architect of the quality label.
“He was an extraordinary person, with great charisma and humanity, who firmly believed in the project and worked with all his might to involve the entire sector in the creation of a common label for Valencian citrus,” Barres said.
