Portuguese fresh produce trade association Portugal Fresh has announced the sad death of its president Manuel évora last week.
évora founded the association in 2010 to boost the export potential of Portuguese fruits and vegetables by bringing together producers to carry out joint promotions in international markets.
He held the position of president since 2015, a milestone year for the industry in which Portuguese fruit and vegetable export earnings topped €1bn for the first time and the country was named official partner at Fruit Logistica.
évora was also executive director of the Luís Vicente Group, one of Portugal’s leading fresh produce companies that comprises Plump Spain, Plump Holanda, Plump Brasil and Plump Costa Rica.
The funeral took place on 1 May in the Basilica da Estrela in Lisbon. This was followed by a ceremony at the parish of Madalena/Beselga in Longra on Tuesday.
