Tom Stenzel United Fresh

A report in the United Fresh Produce Association newsletter has revealed that the group's president, Tom Stenzel, has been elected as the new chairman of the International Federation for Produce Standards (IFPS).

According to the report, Stenzel will be assisted by new vice-chairman Harrij Schmeitz of Netherlands-based Frug I Com.

'IFPS is a very important association in bringing together produce associations from around the world to work collectively on global produce standards,' said Stenzel. 'We learn from each other; share our individual views and experiences; and work together to increase the efficiency and reliability of the global produce supply chain.'

IFPS has also announced that it has been granted Observer Status as an international Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) to the Codex Alimentarius Commission, effectively giving the fresh produce industry a focal point for interaction regarding global produce standards with the commission.

The IFPS is to host its second international forum at the upcoming Fruit Logistica in Berlin, which takes place on 8-10 February next year.
