shipping containers

Timaru-based company Prime Port has confirmed that it is cutting jobs this month in response to two major shipping companies pulling out of the local container trade.

According to the New Zealand group, a net 29 jobs will be lost by the end of September, with 42 positions eliminated and 13 new jobs created.

It follows the news earlier this month that Maersk Line and Hamburg Süd are pulling out of the Timaru container trade, Radio New Zealand reported.
