In response to the increasing popularity and number of fresh produce certifications across the global supply chain, the International Federation of Produce Standards (IFPS) hosted its first Global Harmonisation of Fresh Produce Standards at the Fruit Logistica 2011 trade show in Berlin earlier this month.
The forum examined the potential for global Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) harmonisation, traceability guidelines, PLU coding and other issues.
The discussion was well received by the industry, according to IFPS chairman Dr Hans Maurer.
“Feedback received confirmed that as an industry, we are not only global but are indeed having to cope with identical problems within our global trading activities, regardless of where in the world we are located,” said Dr Maurer.
“Fruit Logistica and IFPS are now in a dialogue to determine how we can intensify our cooperation at Asia Fruit Logistica 2011, Fruit Logistica 2012, and beyond. We thank Fruit Logistica for its support to date.”
The IFPS, previously known as the International Federation for Produce Coding, is a coalition of fruit and vegetables associations dedicated to improving fresh produce supply chain efficiency via harmonised international standards.
