Amalia Rossa raspberry and Fandango strawberry are the winning varieties
The Summer Berry Company (TSBC) has received two Superior Taste Awards from the International Taste Institute. Its premium Fandango strawberry received the top scoring award and raspberry variety Amalia Rossa earned a 2-star award.
Superior Taste Awards are given by a judging panel composed of more than 200 professional taste experts, with their focus being flavour, appearance, texture, and aroma. TSBC said the awards recognise the company’s commitment to high quality, precision farming and sustainable practices.
Fandango is a top-tier strawberry variety created by Dutch breeder Fresh Forward, while premium raspberry Amalia Rossa was created by Italian breeder BerryTech.
The Summer Berry Company holds the exclusive rights to sell Amalia Rossa grown in Portugal to British and Irish retailers. With an annual production of more than 1,500 tonnes, TSBC also sells Amalia Rossa grown in Portugal to European markets and the Middle East.
Commenting on the awards, genetics director Joe de Ruse said: “This is a great result for all the TSBC team, for our commitment to excellence and for creating valuable partnerships with top breeders, aiming to provide more exciting options to consumers”.
