Tesco

Sources close to Fruitnet.com have revealed that leading UK food retailer Tesco has made significant changes to its senior fresh produce buying department as part of moves to cut a number of jobs at its headquarters in Hertfordshire.

In an email to suppliers, the company announced a number of changes, with several senior managers being reassigned to new positions.

One source revealed that 'a whole layer of management' has been removed from the company's fresh produce team, based in Cheshunt.

At least three members of the team are understood to be moving to other parts of the business.

As reported elsewhere, the retailer is believed to be axing around 100 head office jobs following a similar clear-out last year.

However, the losses could be 'as many as 200', according to one major European fresh produce supplier.
