New Zealand company Turners & Growers has acquired 360ha of land in Peru to develop a global table grape business, part of ambitious plans to develop a year-round global supply base that can supply key customers in markets around the world.
Eurofruit has also learned that the company is close to tying up a joint venture agreement with a major player in the Southern Hemisphere table grape business to develop the plantations in Peru.
The agreement is thought to be based on a 50:50 shareholding arrangement, although the details of the deal remain under wraps for the time being.
Earlier this year, T&G announced plans to adopt a new commercial strategy that would see it focus more of its efforts on building 12-month supply of key categories topfruit, table grapes and kiwifruit, as well as citrus on its domestic market.
The company said those categories were areas in which it believed greater integration and value could be achieved.
