Eurofruit'sannual survey of the European fresh produce businessis returning for its second year in order to gauge sentiment within the industry and assess the potential prospects for growth over the coming year.
With the results due to be published in the magazine's January 2014 issue, which will be distributed at Fruit Logistica in Berlin on 5-7 February, the survey is set to provide a useful snapshot of the state of the industry as it heads into what many believe will be a better year for the European trade in terms of demand, sales and market growth.
Last year's inaugural Eurofruit survey brought home the level of concern among those working in the European fresh produce business about the challenges they faced in terms of reviving consumer interest, surviving the economic downturn and ensuring the supply chain remained profitable. In particular, transport and logistics costs emerged as the area in which respondents felt the most work was required in order to bring down the supply chain's overall cost.
As for new opportunities, the results of the 2013 survey pointed to berries and fresh-cut fruit as the most promising product categories, while markets in eastern Europe were regarded as having the most potential in terms of future growth.
Those participating in this year's survey will be in the running to win a year's free Print & Online subscription to Eurofruit – including 11 print issues, access to digital and tablet editions, exclusive online news stories and industry news updates via email.
