Around 18,000 tonnes of apples grown in Israel's Golan Heights will be sent to Syria over the next three months, according to local reports.
The move, which has been coordinated by the UN and the International Red Cross, marks the renewal of an agreement that was suspended last year because of Syria's civil war, the Times of Israel reported.
The publication said that despite the complicated nature of trade between the two countries, who are technically at war with each other, this year's shipment will be the largest since the agreement was first put in place in 2005.
Apples involved in the deal are grown by Druze farmers and arrive in Syria via Red Cross trucks led by a UN vehicle, before being transferred to a second truck that carries the fruit to local markets.
