Syria has exported 272,500 tonnes of fruits and vegetables to Gulf states in the past two months, according to the head of the country’s Wholesale Market Committee, Muhammad Al-Aqad.

As reported in Al-Hurriya, Al-Aqad explained that Saudi Arabia topped the list of Gulf countries importing Syrian agricultural products, followed by Kuwait, the UAE and Qatar.

He noted that fruits and vegetables are available in local markets at competitive prices and are transported to the wholesale market from the coastal provinces, then exported through neighbouring Jordan.

Daifallah Abu Aqouleh, head of the Jordanian Association of Freight Forwarding and Shipping Companies, said that cargo traffic through the Nassib border crossing with Jordan has tripled since the beginning of 2025.

He added that the number of trucks entering Jordan reached more than 12,800, compared to 3,448 during the same period last year, representing a 270 per cent increase.

Trade between Syria and other countries, particularly the Gulf states, has recently seen a notable recovery after years of stagnation and the breakdown of trade relations between Syria and neighbouring countries.

In January, the Jordanian government also announced that the country would resume fruit and vegetable exports to Syria following a 13-year hiatus.
