Syngenta has signed a collaboration agreement with Univeg, focusing on meeting the sustainable production requirements of supermarket operators in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
The agreement will include Syngenta-led training on the implementation of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programmes and the safe handling and use of crop protection products, as well as sustainability initiatives.
Univeg said it would purchase fruits and vegetables from growers involved in the project on behalf of supermarkets and ensure compliance of allied producers participating in the scheme.
The collaboration builds on pilot agreements between Univeg and Syngenta, including a highly successful collaboration between the two companies and growers of Italian table grapes.
Martin Kodde, head of food chain engagement at Syngenta, said: “We are delighted to be entering into this agreement with Univeg who share our commitment to the sustainable production of high quality, safe, affordable food.
“By working together, we will support local growers across the region in meeting the demands of supermarkets and consumers and realise additional value for their businesses.”
