US Sweetbay store

US-based Sweetbay Supermarket is set to close seven of its Florida stores for a number of different reasons, including market conditions, geography, performance and pending lease renewels.

The move will affect up to 700 employees, most of whom will be offered positions in other Sweetbay stores, the Progressive Grocer reported.

Company spokeswoman Nicole LeBeau told the publication that three of the stores were in the Tampa area, with other in Fort Myers, Sarasota and Englewood, and that they would close between February and March.

The group is still set to open further locations in Tarpon Springs, New Tampa and Clermont this year, adding to parent group Delhaize's 1,594 supermarkets in the US.
