Zespri, the world's largest kiwifruit marketer, has announced that its new SunGold kiwifruit variety is to rolled out in North America later in the year.
SunGold is a hybrid of Zespri's Green kiwifruit and Gold kiwifruit, growing naturally larger than those two varieties, the group noted.
'We are beyond excited to be introducing SunGold to North America,' said Michele Hoard, senior marketing manager of Zespri North America. 'SunGold is a sensational piece of fruit that the trade, public and press have been anxiously awaiting.
'We are expecting SunGold Kiwifruit from Zespri to change the kiwifruit category for retailers,' she added. 'It is a great addition to our family of delicious and nutritious kiwifruit.'
SunGold looks rounder than a normal Zespri Gold kiwifruit, has no hair and no crown. The flesh is more yellow than gold, and is described as 'sweet, juicy and refreshing.' The new variety will be available in select supermarkets nationwide through November.
