Spain’s citrus exports enjoyed year-on-year growth in January-February

According to data from the Department of Customs and Excise, processed by Fepex, exports came to 2.3mn tonnes in volume and €3.739bn in value, both up on the same period of 2024.

Vegetable exports registered a 3 per cent decline, totalling 1.27mn tonnes, although value improved by 2.6 per cent to €2.10bn.

Category leaders included peppers, with 203,052 tonnes (down 0.5 per cent) and €455.5mn (up 11 per cent), and cucumbers, with 194,166 tonnes (down 3 per cent) and €330mn in value (up 18.5 per cent).

Lettuce came in third place, at 191,278 tonnes (down 0.2 per cent) and €252mn (up 12 per cent), followed by tomatoes with 161,185 tonnes exported (down 15 per cent) and €301mn (down 0.6 per cent), and cabbages at 155,645 tonnes (up 2 per cent) and €240mn (up 7 per cent).

In fruit, both export volume and value grew, reaching 1mn tonnes (up 9.5 per cent) and €1.64bn (up 12 per cent).

Oranges topped the list with 375,220 tonnes exported at a value of €340mn, up 18.5 per cent and 9 per cent respectively, while mandarin exports also grew, coming in at 341,345 tonnes (up 3 per cent) and €467mn (up 8 per cent).

Strawberry exports also stood out in the months analysed, reaching 45,849 tonnes (up 5.5 per cent) and €222mn (up 20 per cent).
