Millions of French workers went on strike or marched yesterday in order to protest against the government's plans to raise the retirement age and increase workers' contributions.
In large parts of the country, retailers including Auchan and Carrefour had to close or were hit hard by the disruptions, according to the UK-based Socialist Worker.
Marcel Grignard, of the CFDT federation, called for a further day of action “on 18 or 19 September or at the start of October”.
