A number of port terminals in the northeastern US will be closed today as an ice storm makes its way up the eastern seaboard threatening widespread disruption.

At the Port of Philadelphia, Dole Norton Lilly International and Packer Avenue will be shut, while APM Berth 88, PNCT, Global Terminal and Maher will also remain closed at Port Elizabeth, New Jersey, according to Advanced Customs. Other terminals that will not open today are New York City Terminal and Red Hook Terminal. However, authorities at the Port of Wilmington say it's business as usual.

. Thankfully, the winter storm warning was canceled today as of 9 a.m., and Port of Wilmington has now opened despite a light wintry mix hitting the area.

Mike Rodgers, Director of East Coast Operations at The Giumarra Companies, tells AndNowUKnow that they are now shipping out of the Port of Wilmington. Holt remains closed, however.

Rodgers also tells us that most retailers were closed because of the snowstorm. 'Most retailers are closed because of the snow storm,' he says. 'We usually don't see that because stores usually stay open in bad weather, but people just can't get to work.' - See more at: http://www.andnowuknow.com/bloom/port-update-wilmington-open-holt-still-closed/christofer-oberst?blast=10662&utm_source=ANUK&utm_campaign=b6a1ca1534-ANUK_News_Letter_021314_2_2_13_2014&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_05a0621836-b6a1ca1534-14858125#sthash.u21VbTc4.dpuf

The storm has already caused chaos in the southeast of the country, leaving more than 350,000 people without power and grounding 3,300 US flights due to ice and strong winds. Retailers are reporting slower activity as people stay away from stores and many employees have been unable to get to work.

Forecasters say could bring a further 5-12 inches of snow to northeastern states later today. However, it is expected to pass relatively quickly.
