Former Greenery boss spent just over 12 months in the role but has left to “explore new opportunities”
Kiwifruit marketer Zespri’s director for Europe and North America, Steven Martina, is set to leave the company after just one year in the role.
His responsibilities in Europe will be taken up on an interim basis by Nikki Johnson, with Darren LaMothe acting as general manager for North America.
Both will report directly to Zespri chief executive Jason Te Brake.
Martina left Dutch fresh produce giant The Greenery at the end of August 2023 to become director for Europe and North America at Zespri.
A spokesperson for the company told Fruitnet: “Joining us in September 2023, Steven has been dedicated to strengthening our position across both the Europe and North America markets. During Steven’s time as President, the team has had some great successes, delivering good growth in these vital markets and achieving record weekly sales.”
Martina himself commented in a note to the group’s New Zealand growers: “I want to thank the team and our partners for their commitment and hard work in building a lasting impact. I am confident that the Zespri team will continue to deliver and thrive into the future.”
The company added: “While transitions are never easy, the Zespri team remains focused on delivering for our growers and customers. We’re excited and ambitious as ever for our opportunities for the Europe-North America territory and for the team.”
