Florida grapefruit

The latest Florida orange crop report from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has showed volumes remaining stable at 131.6m boxes, identical to the previous estimate released in April.

The early and mid-season orange crop remained unchanged at 68.6m boxes while Valencias stayed at 63m boxes.

Grapefruit estimates increased 800,000 boxes to 19.8m boxes, with white grapefruit accoutning for 300,000 boxes and coloured grapefruit making up the remaining 500,000 box increase.

'It has been a good season for Florida citrus growers,' said Michael Sparks, executive vice-president and CEO at Florida Citrus Mutual. 'The season is winding down and we produced another quality crop of healthy Florida citrus which is a testament to our growers considering the challenges they face on a daily basis.'

For Florida specialty fruit, the USDA's tangelo estimate stayed at 900,000 boxes, while tangerines increased 400,000 boxes to 4.5m boxes.
