Dutch fresh fruit and vegetable supplier Staay Food Group has strengthened its position in the apple and pear business following confirmation that it has acquired Frupaks Fruit, a topfruit specialist based in Deil, western Netherlands.
The companies revealed in a statement that all of the shares in Frupaks, which owns the Thomar brand and is two-thirds owned by Vogelaar-Vredehof Beheer and one-third owned by another Dutch group, Crop Frutéra, will be handed over to Staay.
According to the statement, the companies will continue to function separately, although they will work together in areas such as sourcing and marketing.
With its headquarters in the Netherlands, Staay Food Group's main Dutch business, Van der Staay, operates out of two locations in Barendrecht and Venlo.
The group also has sourcing operations in Israel (Savasun Middle East), Romania (Staay Fructe si Legume) and in Spain (Savasun España).
