Dutch importer Special Fruit has taken delivery of the first consignment of new season Pakistani mangoes. The company said the first airfreighted load arrived on Tuesday and will be distributed immediately to European retailers and wholesalers.
This is the second year that Special Fruit has imported mangoes from Pakistan, a product the company believes is highly promising. The fruit is packed in 1kg cartons and will be available through to the end of September.
“These mangos guarantee a premium quality and have a very special sweet taste thanks to their high brix levels. It is extremely juicy and healthy,” the company said.
Pakistan is the fifth largest exporter of mangoes, shipping around 1.6bn tonnes a year. Special Fruits said it is working with experienced growers who are GlobalGAP certified. The firm is scheduled to carry out a social audit on farms later this month.
