Spar UK has started the search for a new managing director after the man currently occupying the role, Jerry Marwood, announced that he is stepping down and leaving the company in the early summer of 2011.
The long-serving Mr Marwood has held the position of MD at the retailer's UK arm for nearly nine years, overseeing company growth to a £2.7bn (€3.1bn) business.
Jerry has a desire to move on to seek new challenges and we have been working with him to map out a process which would ensure a smooth transition,' said Peter Blakemore, commenting on behalf of the Spar Food Distribution Board. 'Thanks to Jerry and his team we have a strong business model and are trading successfully in a competitive market, and at the moment the focus of the board and Jerry is on ensuring that we continue in this way.'
Mr Marwood explained that he still had a number of business initiatives to implement at the group, as well as helping find a replacement and coordinating the handover to his successor.
