Spanish strawberries are seeking new export markets as they look to keep up the momentum built up in recent years, according to leading regional body Freshuelva.
Strawberry exports rose 36.12 per cent between 2006 and 2012, the group told Andalucia Informacion, up to 262,377 tonnes during 2011/12.
Last season, the top importing market for Huelva strawberries was Germany, which took on 33.91 per cent of exports, followed by France with 27 per cent.
However, Freshuelva noted that it was looking to alternative markets, such as Finland and Hungary in Europe, China in Asia and several South American nations.
