Spanish citrus association Ailimpo has confirmed that the country’s lemon producers have a sufficient crop to supply export markets with good levels of Primofiori and Verna lemons until the summer.
In a statement, Ailimpo president José Andrés López said a report prepared by the association’s technical department confirmed the initial forecast for the 2009/10 campaign.
It also found that there were sufficient volumes to maintain a steady supply of Spanish lemons over the coming months at similar levels to last season.
In the case of Verna lemons, the group said that although production levels were lower than during previous seasons, volumes were higher than forecast, thanks to favourable weather conditions over recent weeks.
“Primofiori and Verna lemons from Spain will provide international markets with a complete supply beyond the original forecast dates, providing a good Spanish lemon offer until the summer,” said Mr López.
