Spanish fresh produce exports for the month of August continued on the upwards trend seen over the majority of 2012, according to Fepex, with increases in both export volume and value.
Data gathered by the Department of Customs and Excise showed that fruit and vegetable shipments jumped 13 per cent in value terms to €584m, and 7 per cent in volume to just under 709,000 tonnes.
Vegetable exports jumped 21 per cent in valueyear-on-year, up to €124m, and 12 per cent in volume to 155,000 tonnes.
Fruit shipments to export markets climbed 10.5 per cent in value to €140m, and 6 per cent in volume to 554,000 tonnes.
Fepex noted that the increase was down to positive consumer demand for fresh produce in key European markets, as well as a boom in domestic production.
