Spain falls out of the top 10 as it is overtaken by Egypt, Indonesia and Ukraine, according to Faostat
Egypt, Indonesia and Ukraine have overtaken Spain in the global rankings of fruit and vegetable producing nations. Fepex shows that Spanish output fell by 10 per cent between 2020 and 2023, from 31mn tonnes to 28mn tonnes.
The top 10 fruit and vegetable producing countries in 2023 were China, with 781.5mn tonnes; India, with 221mn tonnes; the US, with 68.7mn tonnes; Turkey, with 56mn tonnes; Brazil, with 48mn tonnes; Mexico, with 40mn tonnes; Russia, with 35mn tonnes; Indonesia, with 34mn tonnes; Egypt, with 33mn tonnes and Ukraine with 30mn tonnes.
The data comes from Faostat, the statistics division of United Nations’ Organisation for Agriculture and Food, which itself collates the official data from individual countries and other international sources.
