Spain protested last week against the destruction by French farmers of a lorry-load of Spanish fruit and vegetables heading across the border to France, according to Europe 1.
Spanish authorities have demanded that France take measures to prevent this sort of incident recurring, the news site reported.
The lorry was blocked near Perpignan by farmers from the Pyrenees-Orientales department, who were demonstrating against unfair competition from low-cost produce from Spain.
Yves Aris, president of the FDSEA (departmental federation of farmers' unions), stated that he understood the reaction of the farmers.
'They wanted to send a strong message to the French and Spanish governments to find an urgent response to the ongoing crises that are disrupting the fruit and vegetables market,' he said.
