Saudi Arabia's rise to its position as a key market for Spanish fresh fruit and vegetable exports has been highlighted by Fepex.
According to the Department of Customs and Special Taxes, shipments to Saudi Arabia climbed to 53,788 tonnes in volume and €55.2m in value during 2017, growth of 17 per cent and 14 per cent respectively.
It continued the steady growth seen in the years since 2013, when horticultural exports from Spain to Saudi Arabia stood at just 17,137 tonnes at a value of €17.6m.
As a result, Saudi Arabia has been selected as one of the Invited Importing Countries at this year's Fruit Attraction in Madrid, meaning it is allowed to bring to Madrid buyers as well as representatives of the Saudi Administration, in a bid to reinforce commercial exchanges and institutional relations.
