The value of Spain's fresh produce imports through January climbed 7 per cent in value terms when compared with the same month of 2014, up to €143m.

This came despite an overall drop in the volume of fruits and vegetables imported, with volumes down 2 per cent to 198,372 tonnes, according to Directorate General of Customs data processed by Fepex.

Vegetable imports totalled €57.3m, up 4 per cent, while volumes fell 1 per cent to 112,149 tonnes.

Fruit imports, meanwhile, jumped 8.5 per cent in value to €85.7m, and decreased 3 per cent in volume to 86,223 tonnes.
