Southern Specialties and its grower partner Meridian have announced today they have added a new raspberry variety to the US importer-shipper's berry lineup.
The Adelita raspberry variety has been under development for the last nine years, while the past three years have seen extensive work conducted in the Michoacán region of Mexico where the raspberries are grown under plastic hoops.
The company will market the Adelita raspberries under the Fresh Kampo label from its McAllen, Texas facility and their headquarters in Pompano Beach, Florida.
“We are very pleased to have a superior raspberry variety to complement our blackberry, organic blackberry and blueberry programmes', said Carlos Solf, director of procurement for Southern Specialties.
Fabricio Blanco, president of Meridian, added: “We have been working on the development of a raspberry of this calibre for several years. The flavour and presentation are among the best we have seen anywhere. We are pleased to introduce our raspberries in conjunction with Southern Specialties.”
Southern Specialties will offer the Fresh Kampo raspberries from October through to May in 6 ounce clamshells.
