Chilean and Argentinean apple exports to Russia have increased dramatically through the first quarter of the year, according to a new report by Fruit-Inform Project.
During the three-month period, Russian importers purchased 22 per cent more apples from Chile and 90 per cent more from Argentina than in the whole of 2010, the report revealed.
The figures mean that Chile and Argentina are now Russia's fourth and third biggest apple suppliers respectively.
Russia's increased apple imports from the Southern Hemisphere were the result of a shortage in Poland and other EU countries during spring 2011, Fruit-Inform noted.
