PulpVision kiwifruit sorter, which analyses the colour of pulp, and Bioscan brix meter are introduced at Fruit Attraction

Italian machinery specialist Sorma Group has presented two new grading solutions at this year’s Fruit Attraction in Madrid.

Sorma Fruit Attraction 2024

It has launched PulpVision, a new optical sorter machine for kiwifruit that is able to detect green, yellow and red colours within the fruit pulp, and Bioscan for measuring the brix value of fruit.

The group also displayed its HyperVision platform together with the updated version of InstanDefect-AI, the Sormatech vision software based entirely on Artificial Intelligence and deep learning systems.

Sorma said it had taken steps to improve the analysis of kiwifruit pulp colour with the PulpVision sorter, which operators can use to sort the fruit into various groups and manage their introduction to the market more accurately,

This means kiwifruit that hasn’t reached the ideal colour can be transferred to refrigerated chambers before it is sold on the market, thereby improving the consumer buying experience.

Meanwhile, Bioscan is a new solution for measuring the level of dissolved sugar content (brix) in citrus, stonefruit and tomatoes while on the processing line.

Products are passed under the brix measurement unit equipped with NIR sensors which exploit the material’s interaction with near-infrared radiation, making it possible to obtain, in real time, information on the molecular structure, chemical and physical properties of the fruit.

Sorma noted that the system was non-invasive and left the fruit intact, making it possible to perform frequent sampling while guaranteeing high levels of precision.

Finally, the Sorma stand in Madrid allowed visitors to view and learn more about the HyperVision optical sorter machine, which it said was now even more efficient thanks to the new version of the InstanDefect-AI software.

“With these new products, Sorma Group demonstrates its close focus on the needs of the fruit and vegetable sector in post-harvest operations, responding with dedicated solutions that guarantee quality end products in appropriate timeframes and enable our customers to be competitive on the international market,” said  Daniele Severi, director of the technology division at Sorma Ibérica.
