Socomo, the fruit and vegetable subsidiary of the Carrefour group, has consolidated its position as the leading buyer of Spanish fruit and vegetables.
The Villanueva de Castellón-based company bought more than 400,000 tonnes of Spanish produce last year for its national and international stores. The group is present in 12 countries in Europe, Latin America and Asia.
Carrefour has 9,000 Spanish suppliers mainly in the agri-food sector, and is committed to sourcing national produce.
Last year it organised 22 promotional campaigns in which 1,100 Spanish companies supplying a total of 4,800 products took part.
The group also holds a 'National Day of small and medium agri-food companies' to reinforce its commitment to Spanish regional and local companies.
Carrefour operates 206 hypermarkets in Spain, 114 Carrefour Market supermarkets, more than 750 Carrefour Express supermarkets and 22 Supeco supermarkets, in addition to its online presence.
