Dutch fresh produce marketer The Greenery is to begin sourcing snack tomatoes from Mexico to ensure its award-winning Tommies snack range is available to North American customers and consumers for 12 months of the year.
The company confirmed the news shortly after the range was recognised by the US fresh produce business at this year's PMA Fresh Summit trade convention and exhibition in Anaheim, California.
The company was presented with this year's PMA Impact Award for Excellence in Packaging for the Tommies range's innovative shaker cup, small bag and bucket packs.
The organisers of this year's PMA Fresh Summit nominated a total of 25 entries for the packaging prize, which considered factors such as marketing, sustainability, consumer convenience, food safety and supply chain compatibility.
Greenco grower Jos van Mil, who supplies the tomatoes welcomed the news that the Tommies range had come out on top.
"I am delighted and proud that we have been recognised with this award," he said.
Maarten Smit of Greenery North America revealed: "Greenco will be starting growing Tommies snack tomatoes in Mexico, which means that they will soon be available all year round."
He added: "The award will make a significant contribution to the positioning of Tommies snack tomatoes in North America."
