The first ever juice drinks to contain three portions of the recommended Five A Day of fruit and vegetables have gone on sale in the UK, created to appeal to people who struggle to maintain a high intake of fresh produce.
Sold under the heading 3 Of Your Five A Day, the drinks have been exclusively produced by Tesco and contain one 330ml portion of fruit juice, vegetable puree and fruit puree per bottle.
Varieties include apple, banana, cucumber and pea; pineapple, carrot, banana and mango; and grape, apple, pumpkin and peach.
'Despite our best intentions it can sometimes be hard to remember to get your daily five-a-day, but these delicious smoothies will make it easier than ever before to stay healthy,' said Tesco drinks buyer Andrew MacLauchlan. 'We believe these drinks will be popular with the growing number of people who now eat meals on the go as well as with youngsters who generally love smoothies but sometimes can hold off from actually eating enough raw fruit and vegetables.'
A recent poll of 10,000 people by the Health Food Manufacturers' Association found that six in ten British adults admitted to not eating enough fruit and vegetables, with the Department of Health recommending that people should eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables each day.
